Spector - 'Moth Boys'

7/10

While Spector certainly made a splash with their 2012 debut 'Enjoy It While It Lasts', thanks to their spritely singles 'Chevy Thunder' and 'Celestine', but it seems this time round the band are looking to focus more on their broodier side. Spector always had that slanted nod to the new romantics about them and it is on their latest release that we see that influence come to the forefront and themselves deliver a far more focused release.

Unlike their previous full-length, 'Moth Boys' has seen them take hold of that darker side to their sound and give it the full coverage it needs. The result is a record that cares less about having a good time and more about creating a solid and cohesive collection of songs that highlights the band's own gothic inspirations. It has this nostalgic approach to production that makes it not only familiar but also keeps it in pace with the record's core sound.

While it may sound like a distant cousin of their debut, 'Moth Boys' is definitely a step in the right direction for this latter day indie outfit. The album packed with an anthemic new direction that shows that they were more than just a flash in the pan.
