Superfood - 'Don't Say That'

9/10

While most bands on the indie scene are looking to find the next big sound, it is refreshing to hear one look towards the heyday of Britpop for inspiration. Birmingham four-piece Superfood have managed to capture the danceable energy of early Manchester-based indie bands like Stone Roses and combined it with the irreverent hip-hop inspired beats of Beck to produce a record of nothing but foot-tappingly catchy anthems.

As one of the fastest growing names in British music, Superfood have certainly built themselves a solid fanbase and reintroduced a brilliantly unpretentious sound that reminds us that guitar-based music can be fun to listen to. With the occasional nod to bands like Primal Scream, Kula Shaker and Blur, 'Don't Say That' has this irresistible attraction that keeps you drawn to it from start to finish. There is something for everyone on this new record as they look to envelop the whole scene as one and not pigeonhole their style with one chosen direction.

Essentially, this is what 'Second Coming' should have been. They have managed to capture that side of British music perfectly and executed it in a way that is not only captivating but also demands your attention.
