Teenage Fanclub - 'Here'

7/10

Having been extremely prolific during their formative years, now more than two decades into their career, Teenage Fanclub albums are becoming few and far between. Reemerging for the first time since their 2010 album 'Shadows', the Scottish rockers return with their milestone tenth full-length album 'Here', and it certainly seems like they haven't lost that edge that made them such a well-loved band in the first place.

Much like a number of ageing bands we have heard recently, there seems to be a common trend to not rock the boat or try anything too divisive. Essentially delivering more of the same without loss of quality, and that is exactly what 'Here' is. While that's not the same as saying that they are slowing down, they are simply making music for the pure joy of it. A simple and pleasant direction that harks back to their heyday, giving it both a nostalgic feel with a sense of ease throughout.

While it did take six years for this record to come out, this new release was definitely worth the wait. The band have clearly taken their time with it, and it certainly delivers a relaxed attitude as it plays. While we wouldn't have expected anything less from an extremely proficient band, it is good to see that they are still giving it their all at this stage of their career.
