Ty Segall - 'Ty Segall'

6/10

Arriving almost one year to the day since his last studio album 'Emotional Mugger', Ty Segall has returned with his ninth full-length, and his second self-titled release to date. Yet despite its eponymous title, which could be interpreted as a more intimate and personal release, 'Ty Segall' is yet another full band experience of full-on garage rock, all tied together under the wild eccentricity of Ty himself.

Although Ty's prolific sensibility has left us feeling underwhelmed with some of his releases in the past, his swift return on this new full-length seems to have come at a time of great frenzy for the singer-songwriter. Clearly their was an energy that Segall experienced in the latter half of last year that led him to create an album of such unbridled momentum. Each track seems to come with a sense of urgency, as our protagonist speeds through each song at a sometimes uncomfortable and alarming rate.

The result seems to be a rapid brain-explosion of ideas that come at you so thick and fast it is hard to keep up. The whole record plays like Ty is hurrying desperately to get to the end, and with no respite throughout, you feel do get a real sense of being overwhelmed by it all.
