Unknown Mortal Orchestra - 'Multi-Love'

7/10

Having formed a solid and loyal fanbase from the release of their first two albums, Unknown Mortal Orchestra return with their most adventurous studio release to date. While their initial albums were easy to sum up, 'Multi-Love' sees the band stretch out their diverse wings and create a record that looks to explore their own musical potential.

Taking that nostalgic, psychedelic sound they have been known for and infusing it with a platitude of other influences has made this record not only a joy to listen but also keeps the content interesting throughout. With a mixture of floor-filling dance tracks and more mellow inductions, 'Multi-Love' has this eclectic direction that allows the album to branch out into new ideas, as well as keep the band's irreverent position at the centre of the release.

While there still remains a couple of duff tracks, the majority of it is a multifaceted and enjoyable listen. If Tom Waits and Prince were to make an album together, you can imagine this would be the result.
