Valice - 'do you want to be alone?'

7/10

When Texas-based outfit Valice released their breakthrough debut album 'Sugarjulie' in 2020, they were greeted as one of the more refreshing names on the rise that year. With a smooth and alluring sound that blends a heady mix of indie-pop, electronica, psychedelica and so much more under one roof, the band quickly made their mark on the scene. And after a few years to figure out their next move, they return with their new EP 'do you want to be alone?', a release brimming with more of that adventurous spirit once again.

While that initial record cemented their legacy up until that point, 'do you want to be alone?' sees them embark on a far broader direction this time around. Inviting rap artist Fak3 5miles and vocalist Brynn Bowman for the track 'All My Lies', it seems clear that the four-piece are keen to bring something new and interesting to their next phase. Channelling the same smooth and invigorating nature they have always possessed, they feel far more at ease throughout this new six track collection.

Although this new material does arrive after a two-year break from releasing new music, Valice are still highlighting some wonderfully progressive ideals here. Atmospheric, shimmering and woozy in equal measure, 'do you want to be alone?' is a solid return from these enticing troubadours.
