Wavewulf - 'Unbreakable Soul'

7/10

Over these last few years, New York's Nicolas Long has seen his Wavewulf project go from strength to strength. Establishing himself with a breadth of immersive offerings within the electronic genre, his tenure to date has been filled with highly-praised releases, all looking to build upon the dynamic ambitions of what has come before. And with his presence growing even more alluring with a string of dazzling delights in recent months, he continues to shine with his wondrous new studio album 'Unbreakable Soul', a record that sits as one of his most personal to date.

Exploring the personal experiences of loss, including the deaths of his parents and nephew, 'Unbreakable Soul' makes for one of his more transportive efforts to date. Continuing much of that broad and explorative aesthetic he has earned a solid reputation for over the years, his newest full-length finds him in a brilliantly absorbing guise, one that offers up a more reflective approach than any of his earlier work. While still very much akin to that initial flair he showed, its inspiration acts as a cathartic release of emotion for him as he delivers a truly passionate listening experience throughout.

It may have been born out of grief and suffering, but 'Unbreakable Soul' adds as a strong and powerful example of human resilience. Brimming with this rich and tender groove from start to finish, Long has released one of his more memorable full-lengths to date here.
