Weezer - 'Pacific Daydream'

4/10

When you have been going as long as Weezer (more than 20 years now), there are always points in your career that will suffer more than others. The band recently went through a string of bad and mediocre releases during the late 00s and early 2010s, but managed to turn it around with their surprisingly good tenth LP "The White Album" last year. Now after next to no respite since their last full-length, they return with album number eleven 'Pacific Daydream'.

But even after listening to the first few tracks on this record, you can tell that they seem to have dropped the ball once again. While on the surface it seems like the same old Weezer doing what they do best, there looks to be a distinct lack of interest when it comes to the content of these songs. Frontman Rivers Cuomo groans his way through a flat and unemotional collection of sub-par pop-rock that actually makes it hard to get through by the end.

It is certainly a shame to hear Weezer slipping back into their old familiar way, especially after impressing us so much just 18 months ago. But that just seems to be the trend for them at the moment. Release one good album, expect at least two bad ones to follow.
