Wild Cat Strike - 'Rhubarb Nostalgia'

7/10

Over the last few years, the buzz surrounding Brighton's indie-rock newcomers Wild Cat Strike has been a steady yet positive ascension. With a handful of EP and single releases, as well as notable festival appearances over the last year, the band have now reached the first major milestone of their career with the release of their brilliantly-titled debut album 'Rhubarb Nostalgia', a record that not only consistently delivers on their formative sound but manages to showcase a wealth of confidence throughout.

The band have already cut their teeth when it comes to sharing new and interesting material, but they have now taken to this debut album with the strength and professionalism of a much older outfit. With notable comparisons to the likes of Alt-J and Wolf Alice, the group have found their chosen path in this industry and are walking it as far as it will go. Straying very rarely from its core sound, 'Rhubarb Nostalgia' is a wistful and warm indie-rock release that sees a very assured songwriter at the helm.

It may not have the instant grab factor of many of their contemporaries, but this new full-length is definitely an enjoyable slow burner from the start. With a well-defined sound and premise, Wild Cat Strike look set to become one of the most in-demand UK outfits for the year ahead.
