What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Not just guitar…electric guitar! I heard Jimi Hendrix’s Greatest Hits on a cassette and I couldn’t get enough of it. It changed my previous radio pop world to one with so many other possibilities. Then I found out he was gone and even though I was crushed, the door was now open.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Radio pop had everything in the 60’s and 70’s. British invasion rock, Motown, Prog rock and even Musicals. Anything with a great and often memorable melody. Specific bands I liked were Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Beatles, ELP, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Neil Young and Cat Stevens.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Three Dog Night’s Greatest Hits, then, Jimi Hendrix’s Greatest Hits.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

“Perfect” by Ed Sheeran or “Little Wing” by Jimi Hendrix.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Oh Yea! It’s one of two ways… I drink too much the night before and I wake up at 4 am with several portions of a song going around in my head (not recommended) For example, “Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To.” Or, I’m really moved/inspired by something I see in a movie or tv drama and I HAVE to go write this feeling down, usually in the emotional words that I’m feeling at that moment. My song “DayDream” is one of those.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Ed Sheeran, Dove Cameron, Joe Bonamassa, Rolling Stones, Trace Adkins, BB King. I know that’s all over the place but I go where the vibe is.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Ed Sheeran

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

When I see someone so moved that they cry after they hear one of my songs!! Nothing is more real than that.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Two things. First is finding ways for people to hear the music. Second, trying to make people understand that I write/record in many genres so the next song may not be in the same style as the one they are listening to.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

LOL, “The song should sound like the whole band got off the same bus!!”
