Having already established himself as one of the more innovative names doing the rounds right now, South African artist Manny Walters makes his eagerly-awaited return to deliver his vibrant new EP 'amethyst.'.
Capturing more of that rich and soul-infused aesthetic he is known for, this new three-track collection makes for an incredibly warm and inviting listen. Filled with broad and shimmering textures from start to finish, 'amethyst.' sees him return to the fold with some of his more impactful releases to date.
So with the new EP available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Outside of my voice, the guitar was my first love instrument-because of the autonomy it gave me.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I grew up on soul & R&B music, this foundation has influenced all of the other music I would come to love.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Coldplay – Parachutes
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Who's Loving You – Jackson 5
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I use physical exercise and meditation practice to regulate myself as often as I can- this usually creates a fertile ground for writing and capturing.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Dijon, Orion Sun, Khruangbin, Mk.Gee, SZA.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Connecting with people from different walks of life through a beautiful medium.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Frustration can be a part of any game. I feel lucky to be able to attempt connecting with my sonic vessel.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Focus on improving yourself, not proving yourself.
