THE HYBRIS - 't h r e e'

7/10

Ever since they first emerged, German trio THE HYBRIS have always looked to conjure a more varied approach to direction than their peers. Keeping the project to a completely anonymous and virtual identity, the band have been on a mission to create a broad and varied sound that is both impossible to predict and completely unique. And with their run of releases continuing to grow in the last few months, they are now back with their latest studio album 't h r e e', a record that adds yet another heady dose of innovation to their growing repertoire to date.

While their reputation for adventurous and eclectic aesthetics is well documented, 't h r e e' sees them push these inventive ideals further than ever. Developing this mixture of pop-punk, indie-rock, and synth-led textures across all twelve tracks, their latest offering finds them in one of their more explorative guises to date. Whether they are looking to get our hips shaking with catchy hooks or offer up something more sombre, THE HYBRIS never pull their punches and opt for bigger and more expansive tones as often as possible.

For a band that has never shown their faces, 't h r e e' certainly doesn't shy away from being in your face and demanding your attention. Opening up every track is like a fresh surprise where unpredictability and intrigue reigns supreme, with the trio making incredible strides at every turn. Something tells us this is just the beginning of what they have to offer as well.
