Ailbhe Reddy - 'Endless Affair'

7/10

Following the release of her breakthrough debut LP 'Personal History' in 2020, a record that was praised by countless publications and even nominated for Best Album at the Choice Music Prize, Irish singer-songwriter Ailbhe Reddy has been on a vibrant ascent ever since. Spending much of the last few years on the road and collaborating with other like-minded artists, she has quickly built a devout fanbase for her material, and now looks to cement that glorious legacy with the release of her eagerly-awaited sophomore album 'Endless Affair', a full-length that develops more of that rustic indie-rock direction she is known for.

With a tracklist featuring titles like 'Pray For Me', 'A Mess' and 'Shitshow', you would expect this to be a very self-deprecating listen, but in fact, Ailbhe Reddy comes across more confident and assured than ever. Much like what we got to hear on 'Personal History', 'Endless Affair' mixes a heady blend of driven guitar hooks with her own mesmerising lyrical prowess to create a brilliantly engaging listen. Rarely finding a moment to slow down, this new collection arrives with hit after hit, showcasing some of her most endearing offerings to date.

While its bright and infectious energy does sometimes falter on occasion, much of 'Endless Affair' is filled with a rich and soaring atmosphere that is difficult not to get swept away with. With more of that dynamic aesthetic she is known for, these rainy days do begin to feel a bit brighter with this album in the world.
