ALETHIA - 'ALETHIA'

7/10

Throughout these last few years, Columbian singer-songwriter ALETHIA has been establishing herself as one of the more emotive names on the rise. Blending her distinctive mix of Latin and soul influences with a vibrant commercial edge throughout her tenure has given her this unique yet familiar direction, as well as earning her plenty of praise and acclaim in recent times. And after a run of highly-regarded delights these last few months, she is now looking to cement her captivating legacy to date with her immersive self-titled debut album, a record that continues that sprawling energy she has been garnering lately.

While her output prior to this release was certainly a broad and diverse affair, 'ALETHIA' feels far more succinct in its vision as she looks to adopt a softer and more alluring aesthetic throughout. Coupling her warm and spellbinding vocal textures with this tender approach to production from start to finish, her initial full-length frames her as a wonderfully heartfelt composer, one that always searches for the more evocative tones within her songwriting. Tracks like 'Monedero' and 'Utopia' shine as these beautifully endearing odes, something that this new release looks to heighten as it plays.

She has certainly been one of the more prolific artists over these last few years, but this new collection allows us to really breathe in the depths of her direction to date. ALETHIA may still be working the peripheries of the scene right now, but her self-titled effort will surely see her profile grow faster and further in the months ahead.
