Ames Harding & The Mirage - 'Appalachian Jungle Radio'

8/10

Ever since they first broke through with their highly-praised debut album 'Dance Of The Red Flower' in 2022, US outfit Ames Harding & The Mirage have set themselves up as one of the more enchanting names on the rise. Taking cues from both the psych-pop world and more ethereal textures throughout their tenure to date, they have quickly earned a reputation for rich and shimmering ideals over the years. And after recently returning with their much-loved comeback single 'The Governor's Dead', they are back once again to deliver their vibrant new EP 'Appalachian Jungle Radio', a release that continues that vivid ascent throughout.

Continuing in that same woozy vein they have earned a reputation for lately, 'Appalachian Jungle Radio' makes for an incredibly warm and alluring listen. Using this diverse approach to instrumentation and production to create its wonderfully adventurous aesthetic, this new six-track collection builds upon their dynamic direction of late, and pushes it as far as it will go. Highlighted by its dazzling opening number 'What's Your Destination?', this new EP finds the band in fine spirits from start to finish.

It has certainly been a broad and explorative journey for them recently, but 'Appalachian Jungle Radio' shows they still have plenty of fresh and exciting ideas in which to pursue. Brimming with this wistful approach to their songwriting to boot, Ames Harding & The Mirage remain a fascinating addition to today's new music scene.
