Anderson East - 'Delilah'

6/10

After releasing his much lauded sophomore album 'Flowers Of The Broken Hearted' back in 2012, US soul singer Anderson East has been extremely busy building his name and reputation ready for this new album, his first through new label Elektra. And while his sound is very much rooted in the past, this new record aims to bring a fresher side to the genre and allow East to really stand out on each track.

Taking that classic RnB rhythm and splicing it with a contemporary pop dynamic has made 'Delilah' an incredibly diverse release. With the odd hint of disco and funk laden throughout, East has managed to create a hybrid sound that cherry-picks the best in 20th century music and brings it together under the guidance of his crooning vocals. The result is a well-written release with all the hallmarks of a frontman just beginning to discover his direction.

It may still lack in purpose as it is clear that Anderson East is still looking to spread his creative wings rather than commit to a single intention. But the eclectic result still has its fair share of highlights and makes for an enjoyable listen.
