Rising duo BEEFCAKE have shared the hypnotic visual for their latest single 'Smothering', the second track lifted from their highly-anticipated debut EP 'Detrimentors', set for release on the 2nd May. The video, directed by longtime collaborator Nuch, captures the track’s emotional intensity with a striking visual language that’s as arresting as the song itself.
Recorded at the renowned Rising Sun studio in south-east London—a creative hub that’s fostered names like black midi, The Last Dinner Party, Shame, and AJ Tracey—'Smothering' is a poignant dive into vulnerability and abandonment.
“‘Smothering’ is about someone giving up on you, as you reach that rock bottom,” explains vocalist Dora. “It’s a particularly painful memory that I wanted to explore, and turn it into something beautiful and cathartic.”
The track’s raw emotion is mirrored in its production—haunting, minimalist arrangements that give way to Dora’s searing vocal delivery. It’s another compelling glimpse into BEEFCAKE’s fast-expanding sonic universe, following a groundswell of critical acclaim from NME, The Line of Best Fit, Wonderland, DIY, and more.
