awfultune - 'unreleased demos II'

7/10

Throughout her illustrious tenure over the years, New York's awfultune has been praised for her broad and immersive approach to songwriting. Spending much of her time seeking out new and fascinating aesthetics in which to explore, these pursuits can sometimes leave some more ambitious work on the cutting room floor. So she now returns to the fold to deliver her sprawling new EP 'unreleased demos II', a collection that looks to give light to some of forgotten gems within her vibrant catalogue to date.

As a follow-up to the 2019 project 'unreleased demos', this sequel looks to highlight the more emotive angles behind her lyrics. With some tracks previously unheard while others are revamped from previous outings, the EP's flow comes to a head with its final addition 'be ur dog', a truly memorable moment within an already impactful listening experience. Much like her output so far, 'unreleased demos II' captures a beautifully admirable direction that builds upon those passionate foundations of the last few years.

While awfultune has always managed to conjure something fresh and exciting in which to explore, these unreleased offerings still maintain plenty of that spirited appeal she has always possessed. Shimmering and enchanting at every turn, she finds a broader sense of self within these almost buried delights.
