Baby Queen - 'Quarter Life Crisis'

7/10

Over the last few years, Arabella Latham's Baby Queen project has been seen as one of the more innovative additions to the new music landscape of late. Dabbling in a conventional pop pursuit that always seeks new and interesting flavours in which to develop, her work to date has been this heady mix of euphoric anthems and more tender aesthetics all blended together. And after plenty of buzz these last few months, she now releases her long-awaited debut album 'Quarter Life Crisis', a record brimming with bright and immersive textures once again.

What has made Baby Queen such an appealing presence on the scene has been her down-to-earth nature, wrapped up in this larger-than-life persona, something 'Quarter Life Crisis' comes jam-packed with. Branching further towards an unexplored and experimental edge than many of her contemporaries, she delivers a wonderfully fresh and enjoyable full-length that perfectly capitalises on the praise she has been building in recent years already.

While this new release packs plenty of punches, there are still the odd moments that we see her in a more contemplative guise, giving 'Quarter Life Crisis' a brilliantly diverse feel throughout. Moving in the same lines she has always ventured down, she is making a bold statement with this new outing.
