Bat For Lashes - 'The Dream Of Delphi'

7/10

Throughout her illustrious career to date, Bat For Lashes' Natasha Khan has always been one of the more adventurous and explorative names doing the rounds. Regularly adopting a broad and immersive atmosphere to create some truly spellbinding offerings, she has always delivered a far more captivating sound than most. And since becoming a mother in 2020, she has sought inspiration from her new life for her long-awaited sixth studio album 'The Dream Of Delphi', a record that pays homage to her child and newfound experiences.

While not completely a concept release that explores the life of her daughter so far, 'The Dream Of Delphi' is more about pursuing that mystical wonderment that child rearing can evoke. Mixing poetry with broad and alluring soundscapes throughout, her newest outing is a rich and sprawling affair that finds her in one of her most creative guises yet. Rich with this warmth and love she clearly has for her child, she looks to honour the last few years of her life with a powerful tribute that has no doubt changed who she is and what she wishes for the future.

Clearly 'The Dream Of Delphi' has been in the works for a number of years, given its intricate details throughout, offering up some of Khan's most proficient material to date. It feels like more of a departure from her more memorable work, but still shows just how innovative and distinctive she can be when the inspiration strikes.
