Ben Khan - 'Ben Khan'

7/10

When producer Ben Khan returned out of the blue earlier this year, his comeback was more than welcome to those that remembered his original material. After disappearing suddenly since the release of his second EP '1000' in early 2015, the frontman was clearly looking to find himself in this fast paced music industry. And after three years in the wilderness, he has returned with his long-awaited self-titled debut album and seems focused on bringing a new side to his sound this time around.

His original EPs may have been a groundbreaking collection of ideas that saw him experiment as much as he could, but given this is a full-length record, he has obviously been looking to find a sound that can last and fulfil an entire 15-track release. 'Ben Khan' is a series of bold and fascinating cuts that he has tried remarkably well to flow into one another, but as old habits die hard, we do find a couple of occasions where his eccentricity blows out and ends up moving the tone of the release into new areas that sometimes don't quite fit as well as they should.

The album certainly makes a statement when it comes to creating an almost unique path for the producer to embark on, but there are a few duffers on here that make the LP a little harder to listen to at times. An incredible effort that could have done with a quick trim here and there.
