Bertie Newman - 'Precipice'

8/10

Over these last few years, Hackney's Bertie Newman has been seen as one of the more progressive names on the UK's singer-songwriter scene. Regularly earning comparisons to the likes of Bon Iver, Hozier and Gregory Alan Isakov for his releases to date, he has always looked to adopt a beautifully rich and shimmering appeal, something that has seen him garner widespread praise and acclaim with everything he does. And after another riveting run of releases these last few months, he is back once again with his new EP 'Precipice', a collection shining with warm and passionate tones throughout.

Continuing to maintain that sweet and tender acoustic-led aesthetic for his newest outing, 'Precipice' makes for a wonderfully smooth and heartfelt listen from start to finish. Featuring the previously shared cuts 'Razored Glass', 'Come Back Around', 'Six Months Later' and 'Decay', this new six-track collection finds him in beautifully renewed spirits at every turn. Blending a subtle mix of heartwarming songwriting with this vibrant approach to production, his latest material marks some of his most captivating work yet.

While plenty has already been said about his inventive pursuits over the years, 'Precipice' feels like a strong and commanding step forward within his musical evolution to date. With such a flair for swooning compositions as well, Bertie Newman remains a towering figure doing the rounds right now.
