BESS - 'Virginia Supreme'

7/10

Over these last few years, Danish artist BESS has always been one to explore a more diverse appeal than many of her peers. Embarking on these broad and spellbinding pursuits with everything she releases, she has maintained this strong and confident aesthetic that looks to build upon everything that has come before it. And after returning with her brilliant comeback singles 'Drag Song' and 'Gatekeeper' earlier this year, she is now back once again to deliver her immersive new studio album 'Virginia Supreme', a record beaming with innovative throughout.

Opening up with the wonderfully explorative 'Art Figure', her newest collection sets itself up as one of her more illuminating releases to date. Moving with this warm and subtle grace across each of its thirteen tracks, 'Virginia Supreme' is a fresh and vibrant return from a talent bustling with fresh and alluring ideas. Continuing on from those adventurous spirits she conjured in her earlier years, this new outing breathes life into her forward-thinking direction, and reestablishes her as a true innovator doing the rounds right now.

Landing somewhere between the commercial realm and a more avant-garde edge, 'Virgina Supreme' is equally mesmerising as it is enthralling. Oozing with this bold and progressive flow from start to finish, BESS is certainly a name we need to get more familiar with in the months ahead as well.
