Blaenavon - 'That’s Your Lot'

8/10

Having watched the Hampshire outfit deliver one immensely impressive EP after another over the last few years, the arrival of Blaenavon's debut album seems like a long time coming. The band have been praised as a return to the great indie-takeover days of the mid-2000s, and while they may not be the most energetic group, their songwriting and performance on this new release certainly sees them make their mark on the scene.

Opening up with their much-praised single 'Take Care', the album is quick to dispel any rumours of a one-trick-pony record. While 'Take Care' is a far more humbled track, each cut afterwards seems to want to make its own impact on this release. The diversity and eclectic nature of their direction has allowed them to spared their creative wings and deliver an album akin the heyday of Bombay Bicycle Club or The Maccabees.

It is fair to say that it has been a while since we have heard an indie album this engaging. 'That's You Lot' has not only proven the brilliance of Blaenavon, but also given us hope that the better days for the UK's indie scene could in fact be ahead of us.
