Blossoms - 'Cool Like You'

7/10

Back in 2016, the nation went Blossoms crazy for this lot. With a huge wealth of industry acknowledgement from Glastonbury main stage slots to a Mercury Prize nomination, the band's self-titled debut album set them up to become one of the country's biggest new bands. But two years on and the dust has certainly settled around the five-piece, allowing them to release their second studio album under far less fanfare.

From the beginning, 'Cool Like You' sees them take on less of the radio-friendly, riff-led tracks of their debut and aims to create a release that flows with more confidence over their direction. The result is a brilliantly diverse release that moves and flows with ease as it plays. It may not have that same hit-factor as their first full-length, but still manages to engage with the listener and create a solid journey throughout.

Most talk about how the second album can make or break a career, but for Blossoms, it seems they have managed to cut themselves a new path that is less about the public eye and more about their devoted fans. A decision that will ultimately serve them far better in the future.
