Buko Shane - 'Pandemic Blues'

7/10

Ever since the release of their stunning debut LP 'Old Blues' in 2020, Finland's Buko Shane have looked to adopt a more tender approach than many in the indie-folk arena. Delivering these beautifully serene soundscapes that sweep and swoon as often as possible, their catalogue to date has been this beautifully rousing affair, one that shines from beginning to end. And after returning with some of their more engaging material to date earlier this year, they now release their eagerly-awaited new studio album 'Pandemic Blues', a record that continues that solemn direction throughout.

While many probably don't want to remember the COVID lockdowns anymore, there has been no denying its impact of the creative spirit of many artists around the world, and 'Pandemic Blues' is a perfect testament to that. Written and recorded during its height, this new collection looks to elevate the feelings, moods and experiences we all went through during that time, offering up some wonderful tender emotions as it plays. While not specifically inspired by the pandemic, it certainly has that longing for freedom about it, something we can now all relate to.

Although the release keeps a very strict approach to its songwriting and production, 'Pandemic Blues' still manages to find new and interesting ideas in which to explore. Brimming with these warm and inviting aesthetics throughout, Buko Shane continue to soar across this wondrous new delight.
