Clairo - 'Charm'

8/10

When US singer-songwriter Clairo released her breakthrough debut LP 'Immunity', she was only just about to turn 19, and had already found herself as one of the more exciting names emerging that year. Since then, her tenure has grown from strength to strength, largely thanks to the worldwide acclaim behind her sophomore release 'Sling' in 2021. But now looking to approach her music in a more refined and progressive way, she returns with her eagerly-awaited third studio album 'Charm', a record that showcases a more lofty side to her sound throughout.

While still very much keeping that woozy Clairo aesthetic at the helm, 'Charm' comes across as a far more inventive listen from beginning to end. Exploring a more ambitious and adventurous approach to production, this new collection feels like a strong and assured step forward in her musical evolution to date. Brimming with these rich and inviting textures that perfectly suit her wistful vocal performance, she returns to the fold with one of her most alluring releases to date here.

Although there has already been plenty of accolades for her previous work, 'Charm' could well become her most impactful album yet. Moving with this warm and subtle elegance throughout, Clairo continues to push the boundaries of her sound and emerge more invigorating than ever.
