Cut Copy - 'Haiku From Zero'

6/10

Having proven themselves as one of the more proficient electronic outfits in the world during their infancy, we assumed that we had lost Cut Copy to the ether after next to no activity from them since their 2013 album 'Free Your Mind'. But after nearly four years of radio silence, the Australian four-piece are back with their fifth full-length release 'Haiku From Zero', a record that may not be the big comeback we were hoping for.

While the opening track, and indeed also one of the first tastes we had of this new release, 'Standing In The Middle Of The Field' brings back all those memories of great dancefloor-ready Cut Copy tracks of yesteryear, the record does have trouble keeping up with that pace and flair. Over the course of the release we are met with a number of great disco-inspired stompers, but also far too much filler for a return of this ilk, leaving the listener feeling rather flat as it moves on.

It is still a wildly enjoyable record but one that you would find skipping through on. 'Haiku From Zero' may have looked like the glorious return for the group, but unfortunately just falls slightly short of our expectations of what we were expecting.
