Düsol - 'Overstimulation'

8/10

When Californian duo Düsol arrived on the scene last year, they were greeted as one of the more ferocious and engaging names on the rise. Breaking through with their stunning debut EP 'Fine', the band's approach to punk-rock energy with a distinctive flair for impactful grooves gave them an instantly recognisable direction that has served them extremely well in the months since. Now looking to continue that upward ascent, they return with their sophomore EP 'Overstimulation', a release brimming with raw and driven energy throughout.

Much like what they demonstrated on 'Fine', this new four-track collection finds them in an extremely bold and frantic guise from start to finish. With its opener 'Hex' blasting open the doors to their explosive identity once again, 'Overstimulation' moves effortlessly from one catchy offering to the next, delivering some truly refreshing anthems throughout. While the punk sound is certainly a strong influence amongst their newest material, there are far more influences and genres at work here, creating this wildly diverse listen that pushes the boundaries of their aesthetic as far as they will go.

Although they are still very much in the early stages of their tenure, 'Overstimulation' certainly packs one hell of a punch! Tracks like 'Psych Ward' would sound perfect on a large festival stage, and with releases this enjoyable, it shouldn't be long before they get themselves there either.
