Deep Sea Camels - 'This Is Where We Are Now'

7/10

Throughout these last few years, emerging outfit Deep Sea Camels have managed to establish themselves as one of the more progressive names on the scene. While largely influenced by the classic rock sounds of the 1960s and 70s, they have rekindled that forgotten era, and rebranded it for a modern ear, resulting in a wildly enjoyable and immersive sound. And with their 2023 debut LP 'Cheapside And Kings' cementing their dynamic legacy, they are back once again with their vibrant sophomore studio album 'This Is Where We Are Now', a record that builds upon that enigmatic aesthetic to date.

While their initial offering certainly saw them arrive with flair and finesse at every turn, 'This Is Where We Are Now' feels like a far more adventurous listen throughout. Keeping very much to the same riveting alt-rock direction they have always explored, this new collection sees them embark on a more diverse pursuit as they create these brilliantly riveting soundscapes that always look to intrigue. With an eclectic approach to both their songwriting and production, Deep Sea Camels are returning to the fold with one of their most exploratory releases so far.

They may have only been doing the rounds these last few years, but 'This Is Where We Are Now' already shows a group brimming with fresh and innovative ideas just waiting to be unearthed. Oozing with killer hooks and a driven energy from start to finish, Deep Sea Camels continue their journey as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.
