Dinosaur Jr. - 'Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not'

6/10

There are some bands that disappear after just a few releases, and then there are some that continue through regardless. One of the latter is grunge three-piece Dinosaur Jr. A group that has been together for more than thirty years, and despite everything have returned to deliver their first album in four years, 'Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not'. A record that shows that they are far from giving up now.

By now, Dinosaur Jr. are just part of the US rock furniture. Seeing their name on festival line-ups and tour listings doesn't surprise, but what is surprising is just how good they remain musically. While this latest release doesn't have the biggest budget production wise, it is filled with same old fun and power they have always had. The fact that they have barely changed over the years is actually quite refreshing as this album has the benefit of being new but sounding nostalgic.

It may be seen as more of a placeholder in their catalog, but 'Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not' is certainly no damp squib. An enjoyable romp from start to finish, that barely feels like it broke a sweat. And it's that laid-back attitude that will see Dinosaur Jr. outlive us all.
