Django Django - 'Born Under Saturn'

7/10

After riding a wave of fully justified hype thanks to the release of their self-titled debut album back in 2012, innovative four-piece Django Django return with their second studio album 'Born Under Saturn'. Much like their debut, this new release aims to challenge the preconceptions of what a British indie band could be and its mix of high experimentation with engaging songwriting still remains a hallmark of this incredible outfit.

While many wouldn't be able to tell the difference in overall sound between the two records, what 'Born Under Saturn' has is a far more refined direction. The album flows with a much more determined purpose and each track has been purposefully written to accompany the one preceding it. Its lack of stand-out singles shows that this is an album that was written and intended to be played in full, something that most modern acts have chosen to ignore.

It may not be packed with hooks or memorable anthems but 'Born Under Saturn' is exactly what Django Django should have done this time around. Taking their unique sound to the next level and giving the listener a far more cohesive experience.
