Dreamcar - 'Dreamcar'

7/10

Not much seems to have been said about the new supergroup Dreamcar, but considering the prominence of the members and a suitably professional style, it seems the band are ready to let their debut album do the talking for them. Comprised of Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young of No Doubt and AFI frontman Davey Havok, Dreamcar's self-titled debut sees them shed away their collective punk influences and adopt an extremely nostalgic new wave sound instead.

It is fair to say that if you are inclined to check this release out based on a love of their other bands, you will may well be disappointed. But if you were to discover them purely by coincidence, chances are you will like this album a lot more. 'Dreamcar' has managed to perfectly recreate those post-punk days of the late 80s, and not really tried too hard to give it a contemporary spin. It certainly seems like this era is a big influence on the band and they have may their best attempt to do it justice.

While there may only be a handful of stand-out singles on here, the cohesion of the record is an extraordinary example of how to compose a full-length album. Each track builds upon the influence of the previous, leaving a release that is an succinct as it is engaging.
