Dua Lipa - 'Dua Lipa'

7/10

Having released singles from this new record as early as 2015, it seems that the wait for Dua Lipa's debut album has been next to endless. Yet after a number of push backs and a whopping six previews in the form of stand-alone singles, we have finally received the singer's first major milestone of her career as she continues her dominance of the world stage. And despite a fairly eclectic collection of writers and producers on the record, the result has come together pretty well.

Unlike many other new pop acts we have heard in the last few years, Dua Lipa has always stood out as a forward-thinking artist in the same way Lorde did when she first emerged. There is a sound and style there that is quintessentially her own, and has managed to stretch far enough into a full-length album without the need for too much filler. 'Dua Lipa' is a brilliant and unique landmark on the pop scene of 2017 that manages to be both commercially accessible and engaging for the more harsher critics.

Yet while the use of so many producers has given it a harder edge when it comes to making a cohesive record, each song as it is proves to have earned its place. We have already heard half the record's content over the years, but hearing them for the first time together does make it clear how hopeful we are for her career.
