easy life - 'MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE...'

7/10

When easy life released their long-awaited debut album 'life's a beach' in May last year, it was greeted as one of the soundtracks to the summer. Despite releasing highly-praised cuts as far back as 2017, their initial full-length marked them as the future of British psych-pop and saw them ride a wave of buzz that continued for many months afterwards. But not ones to let the fire die out completely, they have now reemerged to deliver their hotly-tipped sophomore LP 'MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE...', a record that strips back the gloss for a more pensive listening experience.

Choosing an October release date for this collection feels extremely apt. While their debut brought bright and shimmering textures across the summer, 'MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE...' instantly feels like the soundtrack to a dampening sunshine. Still filled with plenty of bounce and vibrant textures throughout, the general tone of this new release is a far more subdued one as they look to add a layer of depth and intrigue to their sound, offering up something that feels comfortable within their realm, but it otherwise pursuing a completely different atmosphere from start to finish.

It may not have the instant grab-factor they have displayed in the past, but 'MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE...' still makes for a wonderfully warm and luxurious listen. They certainly feel very at home within this more easygoing aesthetic, and deliver a strong and captivating return that shines whenever it needs to.
