Eric Hirshberg - 'Second Hand Smoke'

7/10

Over these last few years, LA-based bluesman Eric Hirshberg has been quick to establish himself as one of the more emotive names doing the rounds. After finding renewed acclaim with his stunning LP 'Spare Room' in 2021, the years since have been littered with a breadth of warm and riveting releases, all building upon his dynamic legacy to date. And after yet another flurry of gems under his belt recently, he returns once again to deliver his vibrant new studio album 'Second Hand Smoke', a record that continues that innovative spirit he is known for.

Much like what these recent singles have showcased, 'Second Hand Smoke' delivers one brilliantly immersive slice of soulful blues after another. Featuring notable appearances from the likes of David Koz and Aloe Blacc, his newest collection finds him in a wonderfully reflective guise as he looks to conjure some of his more heartfelt offerings to date. Keeping the flow and momentum of this new release as succinct as possible, Eric Hirshberg moves with this subtle elegance throughout, allowing him to deliver some beautifully arranged swoons from beginning to end.

Times have certainly been very prolific for him recently, but 'Second Hand Smoke' shows he is still very much on top of his creative game right now. Brimming with flair and finesse across all of its nine tracks, Eric Hirshberg remains a firm and focused addition the underground US music scene right now.
