FIDLAR - 'Surviving The Dream'

8/10

Ever since they first broke through with their brilliant self-titled debut LP in 2013, Californian outfit FIDLAR have always been seen as one of the more progressive additions to the US punk scene. Combining raw and gritty aesthetics with this more forward-thinking approach to sound and style, the band reached their zenith with their 2019 outing 'Almost Free', a record that truly broke the mould. And after a number of years figuring out their next move, they are back once again to deliver their eagerly-awaited fourth studio album 'Surviving The Dream', a record that sees them return to that raucous energy they first arrived.

Marking their first full-length release since the departure of founding guitarist Elvis Kuehn, 'Surviving The Dream' sees them returning to the fold with all the same immersive gusto we have loved them for. Opting for a more rustic and less polished sound this time around, FIDLAR seem keener than ever to explore the grizzled ambitions they first took on with their initial LP. Brimming with these bright and energetic delights from start to finish, they have returned to the fold with one of their more enjoyable releases to date here.

It may have taken longer than usual to get here, but 'Surviving The Dream' has certainly been worth the wait. Shining with this fun and upbeat aura as it plays, FIDLAR are back and ready to get our feet moving and fists pumping once again.
