fxrrvst - 'Constable Hotel'

8/10

Over these last few years, Toronto-based duo fxrrvst have established themselves as one of the more innovative names on the indie-pop scene. Taking cues from their genre's conventional aesthetics and adding this uplifting flair to their songwriting has given them a wildly enjoyable sound, cemented by countless highly-praised releases over the last decade. And after recently returning for the first time in three years with a string of comeback singles, they are now back to their vibrant best once again with their hotly-tipped new EP 'Constable Hotel', a collection that continues their stellar ascent once again.

Featuring the previously shared gems 'Lavender', 'Hate Has No Home Here' and 'CBAYAOM', this new four-track collection sees them returning to that rich and dynamic direction they have always looked to explore. Keeping the vibes high and the momentum ever moving forward, 'Constable Hotel' shines with this warming sense of joy at every turn. While there are the occasional moments in which they adopt a more sombre tone, this new EP regularly cultivates beautifully enjoyable moments, adding to the band's already exuberant reputation to date.

While this new material did arrive after an extended time away from the scene, 'Constable Hotel' shows they are still very much on top of their creative game right now. Beaming with this fresh and captivating energy from start to finish, fxrrvst continue their effervescent ascent with gusto and aplomb here.
