What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

First instrument I fell in love with was the Saxophone. My uncle played it, and when I was in 4th grade I started messing around with it too and ended up really appreciating the sound.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I was really into Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne and Nelly. As I got older I was heavily influenced by Ye and Kendrick Lamar. But my parents raised me on a lot of old classic shit too like Marvin Gaye, The Commodores, Santana, and Pink Floyd so I’m definitely fond of timeless music from back in the day as well.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Hmmm I remember my cousin giving me a Twista’s “The Day After” CD, but the first one I personally spent my own money on was Kendrick’s Good Kid Maad City.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Pyramids - Frank Ocean or Back That Azz Up - Juvenile.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Nothing in particular, I may roll up n smoke or just listen to some throwback records.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Jordan Ward, I first listened to him in 2020 during Quarantine but his most recent body of work really hit different.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Probably Kendrick. I’ve been to two of his shows and the energy is unforgettable. And I think a majority of his fans really tune in to the whole bill, appreciating good music regardless of the headliner. Or Travis Scott, his fan base goes crazy and the stage set ups and locations are always insane.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Being able to genuinely connect to people and provide an energy or environment that the audience identifies with. Cause I don’t make this music to impress a certain crowd, or to attain some sort of shallow gratification. It truly just comes from what I feel, my life or what I believe in. And if you can believe in my words, my energy and my work, then I’m thankful for you.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The business.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

I read something where I believe Rick Rubin said something along the lines of “don’t make music for the audience” I think the more you start to cater towards what everybody else feels, you lose the exact thing that made you the artist you are in the first place.

That and Andre 3000 said, “Make the music you would want to hear”.
