Getting To Know... Big Slice

After establishing themselves with their vibrant 2022 singles ‘Could Be Wrong’ and ‘Kept These Feelings’, emerging outfit Big Slice return for the new year with their dreamy new offering 'Invincible'.

Channelling more of that warm and breezy indie-rock sound they have been building for themselves, 'Invincible' makes for a wonderfully enjoyable listen. With its sweet and tender textures, soaring atmosphere, and killer hooks throughout, they are certainly ones to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead.

So with the new single available now, we sat down with drummer Guillaume Boisselet to find out more about his background and what has inspired him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Ringo’s drumming on “She Loves You”. Nothing is heavier than that (especially when you are 8 with your head in between the speakers).

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Anything I could get my hands and ears on from Heavy Metal to Jazz via Pop to Reggae. There is nothing worse than a music bore who listens to one genre of music only.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Pink Floyd “The Wall” which I bought when it came out in 1979 (I was 9 thus had moved on from The Beatles – see question 1 - as I am a music prodigy).

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

“Pagan Baby” by CCR. Enough said.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I am a drummer thus do not write music. Songwriters come to me with what they call “ideas” that I turn into “hits”.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

In the new world I like Harry Styles, Ye and Lizzo.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Neil Young & Crazy Horse

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

By far the creative process, what Keith Richards called “cooking with the boys”.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Sound checking time (always).

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

“Everything louder than everything else” - Lemmy
