What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
I guess it’s a common one but has to be the guitar. I remember making them as a kid with any type of hollow box cut out with some elastic bands.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
My first musical memories were of reggae which was played religiously growing up but I remember likening songs in the charts as well. I remember being obsessed with MJ as a kid. Forever trying to do the moonwalk.
What was the first album you remember owning?
I remember asking for MJ’s bad album as a kid for my birthday and wasn’t too pleased when my dad bought me a De La Souls album instead. A classical album I grew to love as my musical ears stretched over the years. (My parents got me the bad album btw).
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
It’s a tough one, but I’d have to say something iconic like Bob Marley’s 'Don't Worry' - simply because of the timeless impact it has internationally and culturally.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I like to write when I’m in the bath, no distractions, relaxing and I’ll get out clean with a fresh new track. My baths can run into the hours though. I’ll be honest.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I've been listening to a lot of Drake J Cole and Giggs recently.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Another tough one as there are so many artists I’d love to open for. I’m gonna have to say say Nas n Damien Marley.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Leaving the studio after entering with a concept - with a fully mixed and mastered banger to play in the car on the way home.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Being independent and having to finance do nearly enough everything myself.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
A well-known artist told me; not to rely on anyone, trust your own judgement, keep it positive, and don’t give up.
