Getting To Know... FOUNDRY13

Having spent the last year releasing a wave of fresh and exciting indie-pop offerings, London-based duo FOUNDRY13 now return with their latest gem 'Lead Culture'.

With notable nods to the likes of Blossoms and Catfish & The Bottlemen, 'Lead Culture' sees the pair deliver one of their catchiest cuts to date. Filled with sweeping melodies, stellar production, and a brilliantly catchy chorus, expect to hear a lot more from these guys in the months to come.

So with the single out and about, we sat down with them to find out more about their background and what has inspired them most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The first instrument we ever owned and fell in love with would be the drums. We got them as a Christmas present from our parents when we were young and just loved releasing our emotions through it. Over time our love for that quickly expanded into a love for music as a whole.

What has been the most prominent inspiration behind your music so far?

I'm not sure if we have certain artists we view as inspiration for our music. We are mainly inspired by the enjoyment creating new songs gives us as well as creating something that can possibly connect with people on a deeper level.

What kind of music did you love as a teenager?

Artists we love to listen to would probably be Twenty-One Pilots, The Smiths, The Kooks, Mac Miller, a variety of different artists from different walks of life which I’m sure bleeds into our own music. We also always look out for new and eccentric artists that we can share with each other.

What do you find is the best environment to find inspiration for your music?

I’m not sure if we have a certain environment which we favour from the rest. All I can say is that we come up with new song ideas in the most convenient and inconvenient locations, such as; in the studio, at the beach, on the train at rush hour, or at 4am in the morning.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Artists we enjoy listening to right now would be WizTheMc, Aries, YUNGBLUD and we are always listening to artists in different eras as well such as Pat Benatar and The Cranberries but won’t list every artist as it would take hours.

How many of your songs have you written about people you wish you’d rather forget?

I’m not sure If we’ve written about anyone in particular that we would rather forget. A lot of occasions within our music, we generally focus on certain topics and use people within the song as subjects to express those topics towards. We like to make our songs able to connect with a large group of people experiencing similar things to us, as well as cover topics a lot of people find hard to talk about.

What has been the funniest moment in your career so far?

One time last year, when we were performing. A venue had a power cut and we had to perform the rest of our set in darkness and acoustic. There were loads of candles and flashlights and It ended up being really fun.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

That’s such a hard question! Ahhh! We would have to say Either Twenty-One Pilots or YUNGBLUD. They’re shows are insane and we would love to be a part of it one day.

If you weren’t a musician, what other path do you think you might have taken?

Definitely something within the realms of art. We studied arts and graphic design at university (as well as music) and still create art today. The only difference would be that the art we would have created wouldn’t be connected to our songs.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Probably the advice of consistency and always believing in what you are doing at every step of the way. Thats definitely something you need to have.
