What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
The first instrument I fell in love with has got to be the Piano. I got my first keyboard when I was around 7 years old and just loved being able to play along to my favourite songs.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
My parents loved listening to a whole mix of stuff like U2, Kaiser Chiefs and the Sex Pistols. When I got a little bit older I really loved listening to the likes of Florence and the Machine, Picture This and Sigrid.
What was the first album you remember owning?
HAHA, omg I think it was a CD of High School Musical!
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
There are just so many to list but one that instantly springs to mind is Poundshop Kardashian’s by Sam Fender.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I’m not sure if I have any habits or rituals… I feel inspired to write about whatever it is I might be going through at the time, my new EP ‘Dangerous Nostalgia’ is all about living in a weird time in my life, with a lot of uncertainty in things and Broke specifically is about asking my dad for money for my birthday. He asked me how much I wanted and instead gave me £1. So at the moment, it’s basically about all of that!
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
My favourite artists to listen to at the moment are BoyGenius, Master Peace and MUNA.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Again there are just so many! But if I had to pick just one it would probably be Sam Fender!
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
People say this all the time, but I genuinely think that the most rewarding part about being a musician is writing music for people to relate to. There is no better feeling than pouring your heart into something, writing about personal aspects of your life and finding that thousands of other people around the world are feeling the exact same way.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Haha! I like what you did there. I think the most frustrating part is getting noticed! A lot of people love going to shows where they see people they already know.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
The best advice I have ever been given as a musician is that it doesn’t matter how old you are, you just gotta keep going (pretend you’re 21 always!!)
