What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Piano! I played when I was younger. Piano brought me into the world of creativity.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

All types! I loved listening to alternative rock with my brother cause he looked so cool listening to it. I used to be super into musical theater scores, I really loved motown because my family was always groovin to it. Me and my fam also loved R&B and church music!

What was the first album you remember owning?

Michael Jackson, Thriller. I had it on vinyl. Iconic with that white suit and baby tiger!

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Such a fun question. I'm thinking Let It Be, Beatles or Serpentine Fire by Earth Wind and Fire.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Yup, grab a bottle of something, pray the doubt away then write until I fall asleep.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Liz Vice, Black Pumas, Aloe Blacc, Alice Smith, Lianne La Haves, Britney Howard, Twenty One Pilots....so many faves.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I'd love to open for John Legend since he turned his chair for me on The Voice, and invited me to sing with him at Madison Square Garden months after I left the show. He's majorly talented and one of the coolest people to be around. I'd love to work with him again.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I want everyone to feel how I feel when I'm performing. I LOVE knowing exactly when my audience trusts me. I want to take care of them and give them a performance to remember. I love that I can control that through music. I love making people feel great and showing them a fun and entertaining time.

And what is the most frustrating part?

No one really knows what's happening. There's no class or professor out there to help guide you through the business of music. It is unbelievably frustrating to learn the business side of the music world as a musician. I just wanna play music.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

There's no crying in baseball.
