After introducing herself with a wealth of shimmering delights last year, fast-rising artist Lucy Lane is back once again to deliver her stunning new single 'I Don't Want To Be Angry'.
Capturing more of that broad and immersive alt-pop aesthetic she has been building for herself since she first emerged, 'I Don't Want To Be Angry' makes for a stellar return for the artist. With its bold and euphoric energy perfectly elevating her impactful vocals throughout, she is returning to the fold with one of her most alluring releases to date here.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most lately.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Piano; opening riff of Baby One More Time.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
Oh, I was the definitive pop girl. I remember jumping on my bed to Aqua and Hanson pretending I was part of the band. But I was lucky I had my mom and sister to… diversify. Fleetwood Mac, Blondie, Nirvana, Linkin Park, Bob Dylan. I owe it to them. I think walking down the corridor between our bedrooms to a mashup of Oops I Did It Again and Territorial Pissing sums up the sound of my childhood.
What was the first album you remember owning?
There were definitely albums before, but I distinctly remember going to HMV to buy Christina Aguilera’s Stripped album. It was such an awakening. I listened to it from start to finish with my best friend, dissecting every song. It was teenage pop perfection. I think you can hear Fighter in my latest song, I Don’t Want To Be Angry. The super low vocals - almost creepy and deranged - and the rock guitars. I’d like my productions to sound like the stadium version of pop songs, when the rock guitarist gets their moment, except it’s on the original song. I suppose some people would call that Arena Rock. Genre is a minefield.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
When Doves Cry, Prince.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
Lately the habit is recognising an extremely uncomfortable emotional blockage and then saying, “ok, today’s the day to turn it into a song”. That’s what happened for the last song I wrote, Mother’s Pain. I hadn’t written anything in a while as I’d been focusing on releases, but I knew it was coming for weeks. I finally sat down and got it out - starting with a guitar loop and a lyric I’d had long before the melody. “I have been my Mother’s Pain, I’ve cried her tears like summer rain.” It’s been a rainy summer ever since.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I try so hard to listen to contemporary stuff but I’m a creature of habit. Queen, INXS, Kate Bush, on repeat. I love Who Made Who and Polo & Pan - they’re go-to’s when I’m working and need to focus.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Rah rah ah ah ah roma roma ma Gaga ooh-la-la.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Self expression. Regardless of how many people hear/experience it. Just knowing that I’m turning my life into some sort of art - it’s all I’ve ever wanted.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Oh, you know, crippling self-doubt. Imposter’s syndrome. Debilitating procrastination. The usual!
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
To have unwavering self belief.
