What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Piano. It and animals were the only ones that understood me.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Rock and folk with brilliant melodies.

What was the first album you remember owning?

"Benzin" [Gasoline]. A brilliant rock band with a guitar hero who wrote beautiful songs.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Please don't laugh... "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Usually, when I have an idea for the lyrics, the music comes naturally. If not, I play the two books of a folk composer called Nurit Hirsh. Her melodies are brilliant, and after playing them for a few hours, I feel inspiration in the room.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Tons of new music since I was 12... but when I want to be focused, I listen to Ian Dury & the Blockheads. And every birthday, as a treat to myself, I listen to "The Nightfly" by Donald Fagen.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Elton John.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The magic moments with the piano.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The thoughts... "...Making all his nowhere plans for nobody..."

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Write good melodies... otherwise, you waste our time.
