After establishing himself with a wealth of bold and bouncing efforts these last few years, London-based rapper RickyBoy is continuing his vibrant ascent with the pulsing new single 'Step Up Freestyle'.
Honing more of that smooth and emotive aesthetic he has been building since his earliest beginnings, 'Step Up Freestyle' makes for an incredibly progressive return to form for the artist at the helm. With his driven vocal flow riding across a compelling production from start to finish, he continues to shine as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with him to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most lately.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
I would say the guitar was my first love lol, even though I could only play like1 maybe 2 strings I deffo wanted to be a rockstar at some point.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
RnB, Soul later down the line it was grime & hip hop.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Ludacris Word of Mouf, then maybe Deathrow.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Billie Jean. My girl tried to trap Mikey only now I’m realising this. The Kid is not my son, genius.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
Maggie or rose wine. The rest is history.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Ayra star or Tiakola
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Future or playboy carti - the crowd will already be super lit.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Everyone is banging your songs lol. Can’t really get better than that.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Writer's block/no inspo.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Nothing.
