What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

It’s got to be the guitar.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Ohhh…. I guess it was whatever my older sisters were listening to. Radiohead was played a lot and I enjoyed trying to play along. My mate brought Nirvana to my attention when I was young and I enjoyed rocking out to that. I used to love song 2 by Blur. That was my go to.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Hmmm…… Scissor Sisters. It was a gift…. I promise.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Lithium - Nirvana. When I was 11 years old. That was the song I was rocking out to in-front of the mirror too.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I look back at all my lyrics I might have scribbled down and look for inspiration in them. I normally turn everything up quite loud. Amps, speakers etc…. and just soak myself in the sound that I am creating.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening to SPOON a lot recently. Royal Blood, Foals, some Miles Kane.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Right now, I would say Gaz Coombes. Particularly because he is on tour.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The feeling of finishing a song and then getting the chance to gig it.

And what is the most frustrating part?

I guess the opposite of those. Running into writer's block and not being able to get a gig!! I’ve been working hard to get some more gigs, but this can be a bit of a challenge post covid.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Write to please yourself, not others. Be an antenna.
