After establishing herself with her breakthrough offerings 'Obvious' and 'Iron Shield' in recent months, emerging artist Scarlet Sullivan is back once again to deliver her vibrant new single 'Problems'.
Channelling more of that raw and emotionally-charged alt-rock sound she is cultivating for herself, 'Problems' makes for a brilliantly energetic listen. With her rich and soaring voice layered across a driven production throughout, she is continuing to cement herself as one of the more captivating names on the rise right now.
So with the new single available now, we sat down with her to find out more about her background and what has inspired her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Guitar. I started learning to play the guitar at age 10. My guitar instructor, Chad Wesley, is now my music producer.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
Pop music. However, my dad listens to old country (“Outlaw Country”), and my mom likes 90s and current hip hop. Living in Mississippi, I am exposed to a variety of music styles given our rich background in music.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Taylor swift 1989. I’ve never really owned an album, as we pretty much listen to music via streaming services. However, I love this album.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Good 4 u by Olivia Rodrigo. I love the tone and honesty of this song. Good for us, and good for her for sharing this song with us.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
None really. I just get inspired by certain experiences, including relationships, friends, family, faith in God, living in Mississippi, etc.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Paramore, Avril Lavigne, Alec Benjamin, and Vaultboy If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be? Taylor Swift. She’s an amazing artist.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
I love sharing my new songs with my friends.
And what is the most frustrating part?
The most frustrating part is having to sing certain parts of a song over and over again during a recording session. However, I love being in the studio and recording music.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. I love to work. And I love to work at writing, recording, and producing great music.
