What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Guitar, because my older brother played it. He's in the military and rarely was home when I was a kid, so anytime he showed up for a short while was real magic and I looked up to him and wanted to pick up an instrument because of the songs he sang to me.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

The worst sort of music one could possibly imagine. As a teenager I had no internet to browse for music, I sadly didn’t even have an mp3 player so all the music I had access to was the one on TV and radio which left much to be desired.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I think it was Avril Lavigne’s Let Go and I was in love and thought that was some unachievable level of coolness.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Basically all the Lizzy McAlpine’s songs. Maybe there’s one by Johnny Flynn and Laura Marling called The Water.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Not really, I just know when it’s about to come and try to seize the moment.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening a lot to Peach Pit lately, I think it’s an ingenious band. They make me feel happy-sad which is the best feeling.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

James Bay or Vance Joy, I think we have similar vibes and they are also two of my favourite singer-songwriters.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Being able to transform your feelings into a piece of art. It has a therapeutic effect.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Not knowing what to do about the pieces of art you’ve produced.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

If you’re able to stop making music, then you probably should.
